Dr. Ofer Jacobowitz Receives Honor Award from American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Middletown, NY – (January 16, 2012) – Dr. Ofer Jacobowitz, MD, PhD, a partner and director of the allergy department at Hudson Valley Ear, Nose & Throat, P.C., recently received the Honor Award at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS). He was recognized for his leadership and active participation in the organization and his profession.
Dr. Jacobowitz is an expert in the advanced medical and surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and is among a small number of ear, nose, and throat surgeons nationwide who specialize in sleep disorders. He is board-certified in sleep medicine and serves as associate director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Orange Regional Medical Center. Dr. Jacobowitz is highly experienced in advanced surgical reconstruction for sleep apnea and also performs the Pillar procedure in-office for treatment of snoring and mild sleep apnea. He offers the state-of-the-art DISE (drug-induced sleep endoscopy) procedure to locate and focus treatment on the area in a patient’s throat that is causing breathing problems during sleep. An active member of AAO-HNS, Dr. Jacobowitz directs courses in sleep apnea at the academy and is a member of its committees on sleep disorders and medical drugs and devices. His most recent publication, a task force report in the journal Sleep, focused on the future of sleep medicine.
Dr. Jacobowitz also performs minimally-invasive and conventional thyroid and parathyroid surgery, head and neck cancer surgery, and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, and manages adults and children with allergies. He often handles complex surgical cases and collaborates with other physicians to advance the field of ear, nose, and throat for non-surgical and surgical treatment. His position as an attending physician in the department of otolaryngology at Mount Sinai hospital enables him to offer patients a broader range of treatment options and locations. Dr. Jacobowitz also is assistant professor at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
