Rockland Business Women Chooses The Rockland Chapter of the Pajama Program as its 2011-2012 Charity of Choice.

The Rockland Business Women’s Network (RBWN) announces that it has selected the Rockland County Chapter of the Pajama Program as its charity of choice for 2011-2012 season. Every year, the RBWN selects a local non-profit organization to support through fundraising and volunteer efforts.

“We are thrilled to announce the Rockland County Chapter of the Pajama Program as the RBWN’s Charity of Choice. The Pajama Program is a wonderful charity that provides new pajamas and books to children in need.  The RBWN is committed to helping the Pajama Program help provide warm pajamas and books to help comfort children in Rockland County, particularly during the difficult winter months, and we look forward to this positive and worthwhile partnership,” says Dara L. Onofrio, Esq., RBWN president and principal of Onofrio Law in Nyack, New York.

The RBWN is a non-profit networking organization with over 130 members that supports and empowers women by providing networking and educational opportunities. The RBWN focuses on leadership and professional development, building personal and professional relationships, and community support through scholarships and training.

The Pajama Program is a non-profit organization that has distributed over one million new pajamas and new books to children across the country, operating 60 chapters in 33 states throughout the U.S. The program serves children in need living in group homes and shelters. Most have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a parent tuck them in at bedtime with warm, clean pajamas and a story. The need is great. There are more than 513,000 children in the foster care system in the U.S. and more than one million children who are not living with their birth parents. These children have been through great upheaval and trauma, without exception.

Cynthia Branca is the Rockland County president of the Pajama Program and is also a Certified Financial Planner™. She says, “This support will make a huge difference in the lives of our county’s needy and abused children. We expect this winter to be especially critical when these children are most susceptible to colds and illnesses. A warm, clean pair of pajamas and a book helps protect children from the cold and comfort them emotionally.

Last year’s Charity of Choice for the RBWN was Home Aides of Rockland, which received $1,500 at the organizations annual awards dinner held in June. RBWN members also assisted with volunteer efforts to benefit Home Aides of Rockland.
