Carlucci Signs NY Uprising Reform Pledges

Group looks to elect reform candidates seeking to clean up Albany.

Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci, a New City Democratic seeking election to the late Sen. Thomas Morahan's seat, said he has  signed all three NY Uprising Albany reform pledges.

The pledges commit signees to pursuing a three point reform plan which includes a non-partisan, independent redistricting process, full disclosure of outside income by state legislators and employing standard accounting procedures when creating the state budget.

"I applaud David Carlucci as a 'Hero of Reform' for signing the three New York Uprising pledges," said Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, who founded NY Uprising said. "This year voters are counting on candidates to commit to specific reforms in advance, as David has done. I look forward to working with him to see them swiftly implemented should he be elected."

Carlucci said NY Uprising's ideas mesh with his own.

"I'm proud to be leading the charge for reform in Rockland and Orange counties, and I'm looking forward to joining the rest of NY Uprising to structure our government to put people first," Carlucci said. "This campaign has always been about changing the way business is done in Albany because its dysfunction has keep us from addressing problems such as sky rocketing property taxes and job losses in our district and across the state."

Carlucci is running in the 38th Senate District, which includes all of Rockland and part of Orange counties. Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, a Republican, is also running to be Morahan's successor.

Morahan, a New City Republican, died July 12 at age 78 after a battle with leukemia. Morahan had announced he would not seek re-election, chosing to focus his attention on his work in Albany and on battling his illness.
