Clarkstown GOP Aims To Change Perception

Republicans Form Image Building and Public Relations committees

The Clarkstown Republican Committee created two committees tasked with changing the public’s perception of the party.  Committee Chair Bob Axelrod told the town committee members at Wednesday’s night nominating convention that many party members are involved in the Clarkstown Image Building and Public Relations committees.

The purpose of the committees, which have met several times since they were created in November, is explained on the party’s website by Axelrod.

“The idea is to provide outreach to the public to offset the negative perception of the public towards us and to re-establish ourselves as the party ‘of the people, for the people’.  The Public Relations Committee’s goal is to communicate to the public our goals, initiatives and ideals. Our goal is to provide outreach where it is most needed and to improve communication, something I believe we are negligent in doing effectively.”

Axelrod said the public relations committee called “We Care For Clarkstown” has about 20 members. He said they recently painted the legal aid office which will also have new carpeting installed and are working on another project.

“We’re looking to do a fundraiser for the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center,” he said.

One of the planned community outreach efforts is starting a speaker’s bureau composed of Republican committee people to present to senior citizens groups and at Rotary club meetings.
