Early-Morning Power Problems in New City

Police: Problem with transformer at South Mountain Road; down line closes one lane of Lake DeForest causeway.

Residents of northern New City faced some power outages this morning and a down utility line forced the closing of one lane on the Lake DeForest causeway, according to Clarkstown police.

Police said they had reports of power outages around 7:15 a.m. in the South Mountain Road area near North Little Tor Road, where there appeared to be a problem related to a power transformer. Around the same time, a utility line was reported down on the causeway linking New City to Congers.

Orange and Rockland Utilities reported about 162 customers having power problems this morning throughout New City, with power estimated to be back by 11 a.m. You can check out the status of power outages at O&R's online tracking system.

One lane of the causeway was closed about 7:40 a.m., but traffic was still getting through the area, police said.
