Eat Local: Home-Made Desserts

Craving something different tonight? Check out our new column for some delicious choices

So you're hungry and don't feel like cooking, or are looking for somewhere to go out on a date with that special someone—but you want to go somewhere new.

But checking out a new restaurant can be a gambit, so Patch has rounded up some tasty places to try:

Lulu’s Café (West Nyack)

  • Location/hours: 726 West Nyack Rd.; Tues-Fri 11:30am-9pm, Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 9am-3pm
  • Pricing: About $6-9 for a meal, $3-6 for desserts
  • Atmosphere: Fun and funky—almost retro
  • Why go: Tasty food with crazy names and amazing flavor. There are out-of-this-world fresh baked desserts. Plus there are more tea flavors than you have ever heard of.
  • My pick: Pink Cadillac (fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette on French bread) with sweet potato fries—you won’t regret it.

The 76 House (Tappan)

  • Location/hours: 110 Main St.; Sunday Brunch 11:00am - 3:00pm, Dinner: 4:00pm - 9:00pm; Mon-Thr, Lunch 11:30am - 3:00pm, Dinner 5:00pm - 9:00pm; Fri, Lunch 11:30am - 3:00pm, Dinner 5:00pm - 9:30pm; Sat, Lunch 11:30am - 3:00pm, Dinner 5:00pm - 10:00pm
  • Pricing: Sunday brunch $22.95 per person for buffet ($12.95 for children under 10), dinner entrees from $18 to $30, lunch entrees from $9 to $13
  • Atmosphere: The building is 300 years old and has all the charm of the old days, complete with original wooden floors and artifacts displayed on the walls.
  • Why go: The chef is remarkable and puts all his effort into every plate he serves. There is a great variety of foods from duck to steak to chicken and even to ostrich for the adventurous.
  • My pick: 76 Steak Frite (bistro sirloin with mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and haystack onions). It just melts in your mouth and burst with flavor.
About this column: Patch spotlights local eateries and puts them on your radar. Runs Thursdays.

I'll definitely look into a restaurant review of Jimmy's on Main. In the meantime, here's a business profile and 'Meet the chef' piece Nanuet Patch has done already:
Thanks!
