Fire Damages New City Salon

No one injured; sprinkler system helps knock down fire.

A fire at 70 N. Main St. damaged a New City salon, according to volunteers of the New City Fire Department.

The smoke seen from the fire was reported at about 6:45 p.m. Firefighters said a sprinkler system in the building helped battled the fire until firefighters from New City and neighboring departments could arrive.

No on was injured in the fire.

New City Fire Chief Ken Flynn said the fire appeared to have started on a long reception desk in the salon. He said a Clarkstown police officer saw flames coming from the desk, and then the shop's sprinkler system kicked in an stopped the fire from spreading.

Flynn said firefighters from Congers and Hillcrest assisted at the scene of the fire.
