Good Samaritan Hospital Earns Qualty Care Honors

Healthcare ratings company reviews hospital's performance.

Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern reports it has received a series of distinctions for quality care in six clinical areas from HealthGrades, a healthcare ratings company.

The hospital, part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, says it was cited for Cardiac, Orthopedic, Critical Care, Maternity Care, General Surgery and Hospital Wide care.

“These recently announced designations are terrific honors for the entire Bon Secours Charity Health System family, in particular Bon Secours Community Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital …” said Philip A. Good Samaritan Hospital has achieved the following Cardiac ratings from HealthGrades:

  • Recipient of the HealthGrades Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award, three years in a row (2009-2011)
  • Ranked among the top five percent in the nation for cardiac surgery, two years in a row (2010-2011)
  • Ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac surgery, three years in a row (2009-2011)
  • Ranked among the top five or 10 in New York State for cardiac surgery, three years in a row (2009-2011, ranked second in 2011)
  • Five-Star Rated for cardiac surgery, two years in a row (2010-2011)
  • Five-Star Rated for coronary bypass surgery, three years in a row (2009-2011)
  • Five-Star Rated for valve replacement surgery, two years in a row (2010-2011)

Good Samaritan Hospital has achieved the following Maternity Care ratings from HealthGrades:

  • Recipient of the HealthGrades Maternity Care Excellence Award™, three years in a row (2008/2009-2010/2011)
  • Ranked among the top five percent in the nation for maternity care, three years in a row (2008/2009-2010/2011)
  • Five-Star Rated for maternity care, eight years in a row (2003-2005 and 2006/2007-2010/2011)

 

Bon Secors said HealthGrades’ hospital ratings and awards reflect the track record of patient outcomes at hospitals in the form of mortality and complication rates. The company said HealthGrades rates hospitals independently based on data that hospitals submit to the federal government.  No hospital can opt in or out of being rated, and no hospital pays to be rated.
