Gunman Robs Nyack Bank; $14K Estimated Stolen

Trustco Bank branch on Route 59 held up; no one hurt in incident.

Orangetown police are investigating an armed-robbery at the Trustco Bank branch this morning in Nyack.

Police said a man armed with a gun entered the bank branch at 21 Route 59 and threatened bank workers. Although bank workers were shaken by the incident, no one was injured in the robbery that took place around 10 a.m., police said.

"We believe somewhere between $13,000 and $15,000 was stolen," said George Garrecht, a Sargent with the Orangetown Police Department.

Police are currently questioning witnesses to learn the robber's physical description, he added.

Orangetown and South Nyack-Grand View police responded to the bank robbery call at the building that sits just before an overpass of the New York State Thruway on the eastbound side of Route 59. The bank shares a building with a Quiznos sandwich shop.

The Rockland County Sheriff's Department Bureau of Criminal Identification was called in to assist with the bank robbery investigation.

The Trustco Bank Nyack branch opened earlier this year.
