The New City Library Board met in special session Thursday night on one item.

“The only topic we’re going to discuss is the bookkeeping position,” said Board President Joe Reiter.

Board member Ed Kallen made a motion that the decision of the board on July 19 to engage Joanne Stein as bookkeeper be vacated. Board Member Jeffrey Greenberg seconded the motion.  Board members Tom Ninan and Matthew Mulrooney joined Kallen and Greenberg in favor of approving the motion. There was no discussion after the vote, so the meeting ended quickly.

Although a majority of the board had voted at the July 19th meeting to appoint Stein to the position, she declined to accept the job.  The bookkeeper and business and facilities manager positions are vacant.

Following the meeting, Reiter said the Personnel & Finance Committee would arrange a meeting with the board’s lawyer to discuss what the next step should be. He said the consultation could be scheduled for Monday or Tuesday of next week. Reiter also said there was a possibility their discussion would result in a resolution for introduction at the board’s next regular meeting on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.
