New City Little League Softball Team Wins Epic 18-Inning Game

NCLL 11s/12s defeat Nanuet, 2-0, in battle that lasted nearly four hours. New City faces Pearl River tonight.

This was a game that folks in New City Little League will remember for a long, long time.

In an 18-inning-long battle that lasted nearly four hours, the New City 11s/12s All Start softball team defeated Nanuet, 2-0, in a game that featured outstanding pitching and excellent defense on Friday.

New City’s Reese Guevarra pitched the first nine innings, striking out 17. Sarah Brauer pitched the second nine innings and struck out eight. Reese also had five hits with Melanie Lerche contributing two hits and a great defensive play to end the game.

New City’s Deana Prochnau had a double with the bases loaded in the top of the 18th to knock in the two runs at Nanuet

A regulation softball game is six innings, and usually takes about an hour and a half.

New City plays Pearl River today, 7:30 p.m., at Strawtown Field on Strawtown Road in New City.
