Police Blotter: 4 Indicted In Gang Attack; DWI Charged After Accident
Beating victim has not regained full use of hand injured during beating.
A Haverstraw man has been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury in New City on charges of drunken driving and driving with a revoked license as a result of a hit-and-run incident in 2011, according to District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.
Robert Hernandez, 25, of 16 Rockland St., was arrested after a 1:05 a.m. incident on Aug. 20, 2011, in which he was found to be the driver of a car involved in an accident. Zugibe said Hernandez was stopped by police about a half-mile from the scene of the accident, with front-end damage visible on hi car.
Zugibe said Hernandez was found to be intoxicated and tests later revealed his blood alcohol content to be .15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit. Police also found that Hernandez's driver's license had previously been revoked.
Gang Attack
Four Haverstraw residents have been indicted by a Rockland County grand jury in New City in connection with a gang attack in West Haverstraw that left the victim with multiple wounds, burns and injuries that have limited the use of one of his hands, according to District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.
All four have been indicted on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree gang assault, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the Aug. 22, 2011, incident.
Indicted are:
- James Burch, 17, aka James Houston, 97 Gurnee Ave.
- Anthony Adolino, 21, of 97 Gurnee Ave.
- Ryan Burch, 15, of 97 Gurnee Ave.
- Tyniesha White, 27, of 256 Westside Ave.
Zugibe said the four went to a Benson Street home and punched and kicked the victim in the head and the body. As he was beaten, the victim had boiling water poured on him and a glass pot was smashed over his head.
One of the victim's hands was ripped open in the attack and he sustained a cuts on his head that needed multiple stitches to close. The victim also sustained second-degree burns on his back.
Zugibe said the victim required surgery on his hand and still does not have full use of that hand.
Police: Driver Impaired By Drugs
A Sparkill man is charged with driving while his ability was impaired by drugs on Route 17 in an upstate town, according to State Police.
State troopers from the Liberty barracks stopped Craig E. Sauter, 22, on Monday for a traffic violation in the Town of Liberty. Police said that when troopers interviewed with Sauter, troopers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Sauter was given field sobriety tests and was charged with for driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marajuana. Sauter was arraigned by Judge Brian Rourke of the Town of Liberty Court and ordered held in the Sullivan County Jail on $1,000 bail.
