Road Closed: Tree Falls, Gets Tangled in Power Lines

Orange and Rockland Utilities crew cuts power to about 42 homes to clear tree on Phillips Hill Road.

A large tree fell and became tangled in power lines along Phillips Hill Road in New City this afternoon, creating a dangling hazard that is taking several hours to clear.

Orange and Rockland Utilities was alerted to the problem at 439 Phillips Hill Road at 3:53 p.m., and a crew with a bucket truck was dispatched. Because of the way the tree was precariously hanging over the road, the area was closed off to traffic by Clarkstown police.

The fallen tree did not break any power lines, according to O&R, but the problem required utility workers to cut power to the immediate area so they could safely work on the lines. About 42 O&R customers in the Phillips Hill Road area were expected to be affected by the outage.
