SuperCuts To Host Benefit For Hospital On Sunday

Money will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

SuperCuts in New City will stay open three hours later than usual this Sunday and host the Cut-a-Thon, a fundraiser with all proceeds going to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The event is being organized by Diane Brustein, who was working at the New City location but was recently transferred to the Nanuet salon, where she is the manager.

“When they were in ninth grade, one of my daughter’s friends was diagnosed with cancer,” Brustein said. “It’s just so young to go through something so terrible, and I know St. Jude did some really great work with her and does a lot of great work with other kids, so I wanted to help out any way I could.”

The store will stay open late Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the suggested donation for a haircut is $10. Brustein said that stylists from the New City and Nanuet , as well as the Stony Point shop, are donating their time on Sunday to participate in the event.

“We like to think of ourselves as one big family,” Brustein said. “And so it’s nice that we’re getting to help our other families.”

In addition to the haircuts, a therapist from of New City will also be at SuperCuts on Sunday, donating free 10-minute massages.

“We do a lot of community outreach programs,” said Sonia Jose of DeCarlo Chiropractic. “We do it through massages, and it’s a way to get our name out there, but also just a good way to give back.”

She said DeCarlo Chiropractic has donated massages to a number of different events, including charity runs, and they look for different events to participate in. She found this event online and contacted Brustein about it.

“Our way of giving back is give out massages, so that’s what we try to do,” Jose said.

Brustein said she’s also expecting some baked goods at the event, which will be donated by Lizy's Cake Boutique.

“It’s a day of pampering, or rather, three hours of pampering,” Brustein said.

She added that when she had her own business, she would try to do fundraising events for different causes and charities as often as she could.

“It’s always nice to give back, especially when it’s for a great cause like St. Jude’s,” she said. “We have stylists of all different ages who are supposed to participate on Sunday and everyone is really looking forward to it.”

Brustein added that she’s not sure what the turnout is going to be.

“We have our fingers crossed,” she said. “Hopefully we get a lot of people, but we’ll have to see. We’ve been trying to get the word out, and we really hope people show up to support St. Jude and all the kids.”
