Two St. Augustine's Teams Earn County Championships

6th and 7th grade boys head for State Playoffs

 

St. Augustine’s Parish in New City saw its sixth and seventh grade teams win County Championships this past weekend at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia.  Both teams will compete in the state playoffs on Saturday in Poughkeepsie.

The sixth grade team, coached by Keith Ten Eyck, John Nagle, George McGrath and Connor Nagle, defeated St. Paul’s 37-32. Luke Borelli led the team’s scoring with 14 points and Chris Davenport scored 11 points.

Their roster includes: Joe Bono, Luke Borelli, Chris Davenport, Danny Donoghue, William Longing, Eric Maurer, Ethan McGrath, Donavan Nagle, Marc Ronda, Robert Schultz and Kyle Ten Eyck.

The boys will face St. Martins de Porres in the State Playoffs at Our Lady of Lordes High School in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, March 10 at 10:15 a.m.

The seventh grade team was also successful on Saturday, defeating St. Anthony’s 44-29 to capture their second County Championship.

Coach Eric Margolis said, “Most of the boys on the St. Augustine team have been playing together for a few years and really have fun with each other.”

Margolis is joined by assistant coach, Steve Collamore. The team roster includes: Winston Britton, Justin Bullock, Isiah Charles, Dan Collamore, Amari Edwards, Mike Margolis, Pat McGrath, Kyle O'Neill, Isaiah Pean and Joe Schiff.

Their first game on the road to the State Championship is Saturday, March 10th at 2 p.m., also at Our Lady of Lordes High School in Pougkeepsie where they will play St. Joachim/St. John for a chance to advance.
