Valley Cottage Man Accused Of DWI After Nyack Accident

Police: 33-year-old found asleep behind the wheel of car in his driveway.

A Valley Cottage man involved in an early-morning hit-and-run accident in Nyack was found asleep behind the wheel of a car in the driveway of his home and has been charged with aggravated drunken driving, according to Orangetown police.

Police said a 1998 Toyota driven by Devin N. Marrero, 33, of 812 Tulip Drive, was involved in an accident at 5:44 a.m. today at the intersection of Main Street and Midland Avenue. Police said Marrero drove into the rear of another car and then fled the area without reporting the accident.

Orangetown police alerted Clarkstown police about the accident, which led to the discovery of Marrero by Clarkstown police. Police said that at the time he was found, Marrero was asleep behind the wheel of the Toyota in the driveway of his home and he was determined to be intoxicated.

Orangetown police took Marrero into custody in Valley Cottage and took him to Orangetown police headquarters in Orangeburg, where he failed a chemical breath test for alcohol. Police said that because the test showed Marrero to be more than twice the legal limit for alchohol in his system, he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Marrero was released to a family member pending a May 24 hearing in Nyack Village Court.
