DESCRIPTION:Forum begins at 6:30 p.m. with letter writing. &nbsp\;The pan
el discussion runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.\nThe&nbsp\;Rockland Water Coali
tion&nbsp\;is hosting a public information forum about United Water&rsqu
o\;s proposed Haverstraw Water Project\, a desalination plant that would
draw as many as 10 million gallons of water from the Hudson a day for d
rinking water.\nThe Rockland Water Coalition is working with a number of
Rockland County&nbsp\;environmental and civic groups as well as Riverke
eper\, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater\, Citizen's Campaign for the Enviro
nment\, Food &amp\; Water Watch and many others.\n\nEnvironmental Impact
s:&nbsp\;Impacts to Haverstraw Bay\, a spawning area and nursery importa
nt for fish throughout the Hudson River Estuary and the Atlantic Coast.
The plant would draw up to 10 million gallons per day of water from Have
rstraw Bay\, a spawning area and nursery for fish throughout the Hudson
River Estuary and the Atlantic Coast\, including the Atlantic sturgeon\,
which has recently been&nbsp\;listed as an endangered species. It would
discharge up to 92\,000 gallons per day of wastewater.\nCost:&nbsp\;Des
alination is among the most energy-intensive and costly ways to produce
drinking water. The energy demand would also result in increased emissio
ns linked to climate change.\nHealth:&nbsp\;The proposed plant&rsquo\;s
water intakes are 3.5 miles from Entergy&rsquo\;s Indian Point nuclear p
ower plant\, which has a long history of proven radioactive leaks.\n\nTh
e Department of Environmental Conservation is hosting a&nbsp\;public hea
