November 13, 2012—The Rockland Chapter of the STOP F.E.A.R Coalition, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Verizon Wireless Hopeline and the Center for Safety & Change (formerly Rockland Family Shelter) brought the subject of Teen Dating Violence to students, teachers, parents, the criminal justice community and community members in general at the 15th Annual 2012 STOP F.E.A.R conference.
Vicki Crompton, author of the book “Saving Beauty From the Beast”, delivered a powerful narrative at the conference as she described the events leading up to the murder of her 15 year-old daughter, Jenny by her abusive boyfriend in 1986. Ms. Crompton detailed the events leading up her daughter’s murder to a filled auditorium of students at South Orangetown Middle School as well as over 150 members of the criminal justice community and community members in general at Rockland Community College.
“Vicki Crompton candidly spoke about the timeline of events which lead up to the murder of her daughter Jenny by her boyfriend, and the signs that were missed which might have led to a different outcome,” said Kiera Pollock, Director of Special Victims Services, Center for Safety & Change, “in sharing her personal story, she impacted many of the students, parents, and members of the criminal justice community who came to see her.”
Since Jenny’s death, Ms. Crompton has travelled around the country speaking to teens, parents and counselors on the warning signs and dangers of Teen Dating Violence. She has been featured on “Oprah,” the “Today Show” and “60 Minutes.”
