The Hillcrest Fire Department responded to a small brush fire on the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 11/New Hempstead Road early this afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Scott Hankinson said the fire was in a grassy area and the cause of the blaze is unknown. The fire department was at the scene from approximately 12:20 p.m. to 12:57 p.m. The fire slowed southbound traffic.
