State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver invited to his Tuesday press conference in Albany on increasing the minimum wage. Buckler of New City chose to advocate for a higher minimum wage for her Girl Scout Silver Award. Buckler, a seventh grader at Felix Festa Middle School, is trying to raise awareness of how the is linked to hunger in Rockland County.
Buckler was thrilled to get the invitation.
"The press conference was amazing! I was so nervous when I had to speak in front of all the reporters. It was cool to meet Assembly Speaker Silver and everyone else," she said afterwards. "It is awesome to know that what started off as a little community project has grown so much."
