Ambassador Troop 40017 of the Deforest Service Unit prepared and ran a self esteem workshop for 4th and 5th grade Juniors. Each station was thought of, set up and run by a different girl. The participants were pulled out of their comfort zones by being grouped with only one girl from their troop.
The girls were taught what good self esteem is, how being healthy keeps your self esteem and image up, how you feel on the inside is more important, and how to be a truly good friend when someone else is being picked on. They had to come up with a positive attribute about themselves and talked about body image and things they liked and disliked about themselves. Each girl wrote any negative things about themselves on a balloon and at the end of the workshop we all brought those balloons outside and released the negative images they had of themselves while yelling out their new positive attribute.
It was breathtaking! It was so rewarding to hear the other girls at the stations telling them that what they thought was a negative about themselves nobody else even saw. There was no fee involved at this event, the girls were asked to just bring in a donation of personal hygiene to be donated to the Rockland Family Shelter. It was a fabulous event.
