Student veterans and others at RCC are holding a dodgeball tournament to raise funds for the Pets for Vets organization. Spectators are welcome and all are invited to come and support the players and the cause. The event is sponsored by the RCC Office of Veterans Affairs.
The Pets for Vets organization has as its goal, "to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by pairing them with a shelter dog that is specially selected to match his or her personality." The organization employs professional animal trainers to teach the dogs to be a good companion and fit in with their adopted families, teaching them to recognize and help with panic or anxiety disorders if needed, or to desensitize them to wheelchairs, crutches, or other medical devices.
Last year, RCC students held a dodgeball tournament to raise funds for the Wounded Warriors veterans group. RCC has over 150 student veterans this semester and was recently named a Veteran Friendly Campus by GI Jobs magazine. Please contact the Coordinator of Veterans Affairs, Jonathan Barnwell at 845-574-4105 for more information about this event or other services for veterans at Rockland Community College.
The event takes place in the RCC Fieldhouse.
