In May, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) asked Rockland residents to donate any unwanted yarn they had to The Golden Stitchers. On Monday, he delivered 100 pounds of yarn to the group of Rockland County senior citizens who donate their time and efforts to knitting blankets, hats, scarves, mittens, and walker bags for hospitalized veterans.
Carlucci's public awareness campaign ended up saving the group hundreds of dollars that they might have had spent themselves and at the same time shored up their knitting supplies. All donations were dropped off at the Senator's district office in Nanuet.
“We had an incredible amount of participation among ordinary residents in the community, and the amount of supplies we received was truly overwhelming,” said Senator Carlucci. “This will ensure that more of our hospitalized veterans who are in need receive the care and clothing they need because of the kind efforts of The Golden Stitchers.”
