United Hospice of Rockland, Inc. (UHR) is holding its annual Trees of Life benefit at the Palisades Center, Level One, near Banana Republic. The Trees will be illuminated on Wednesday, December 12 (snow date December 13) at 7:30 PM, featuring a special ceremony and musical entertainment by the Lower Hudson Valley Youth Chorus, led by Jared Rosenblum of Nyack. The group consists of about 100 youngsters ages 6-16 who have performed at many large functions– including Radio City Music Hall. Members of the group come from Rockland and Westchester Counties, New Jersey and upstate New York. Light refreshments will be served.
Through December 24th, between the hours of 10 AM and 8:30 PM daily, UHR volunteers will staff the Tree of Life table to accept purchases of stars in honor or memory of a loved one. To purchase a star or make a donation online: www.hospiceofrockland.org/tree-of-life <http://www.hospiceofrockland.org/tree-of-life>. Donations may also be made by mail to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956, and by calling UHR Special Events Coordinator Laurie Meltzer Bandremer at 845-634-4974.
Contributors may become Benefactors (a $5,000 gift), Name A Tree ($2,500 gift) or become a Tree of Life Patron ($1,000 gift); these donations include special recognition. Another choice is to Name a Star: Platinum Star ($500 gift), Gold Star ($250 gift), Silver Star ($100 gift), Purple Star ($50 gift), Blue Star ($25 gift), or Red Star ($10 gift).
The event, presented by the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving, provides an opportunity for members of the community to pay tribute to special people in their lives. By purchasing a star and lighting a light on the trees, individuals may honor or remember a loved one in a unique way. Proceeds from the event will enable UHR to continue to provide compassionate care, comfort and support to people with serious illnesses and their families.
The names of honorees will appear on stars adorning the Trees of Life and will also be inscribed in the UHR Tree of Life Honor Roll Book which will be on display at the Tree of Life ceremony and viewable on-line beginning December 12th at www.hospiceofrockland.org <http://www.hospiceofrockland.org> . The Illuminated trees will remain on display through December 24th.
Executive Director Amy Stern said, "The illuminated trees reflect the countless families, friends and patients who have benefited from Hospice services. Seeing the trees adorned with stars and lights reminds us of those special people. The Tree Lighting is a time when families and staff see each other and reminisce. It is truly our most rewarding event, and a wonderful way to remember."
