United Hospice of Rockland’s (UHR) Youth for Hospice (YFH) exhibited in Clarkstown High School South’s Community Service Fair with a display to explain YFH and UHR and encourage participation.
Youth for Hospice was founded in 2008 ago by twelve sophomores at Clarkstown North High School in New City. Those girls now attend colleges including Duke, Tufts, University of Pennsylvania, Emory and Syracuse. The legacy they left behind continues to grow and the current membership of Youth For Hospice is comprised of boys and girls, freshmen to seniors, and has expanded to include students from several area high schools. Two satellite groups of students from Tappan Zee High School and Nyack High School were formed in Fall 2011. North Rockland High School, established in Fall 2012, is the third.

Members of YFH, who receive community service hours for meetings and events, assist at many of United Hospice of Rockland’s ongoing programs and events, including Hugs for Hospice, the Annual Walkathon, Trees of Life, Spring Gala, Africa Hospice Project and blood drives. Some members volunteer in the office as well. The fifth annual Dance-A-Thon raised a record $18,000 to benefit United Hospice of Rockland.
United Hospice of Rockland (UHR) serves as a resource for palliative care, bereavement support, and information about end of life issues.
