United Hospice of Rockland’s (UHR) Youth for Hospice (YFH) Tappan Zee High School Chapter will raise funds for UHR on Saturday, December 1 at the Holiday Boutique at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 120 King’s Highway in Tappan, from 9am-3pm. There will be a booth to benefit UHR including holiday note cards and stars for purchase for Trees of Life Benefit at the Palisades Center from November 30 to December 24th. Ceara Genovesi, president of YFH’s Tappan chapter, is running the event.
Youth for Hospice was founded in 2008 by twelve sophomores at Clarkstown North High School in New City. Those girls now attend colleges including Duke, Tufts, University of Pennsylvania, Emory and Syracuse. The legacy they left behind continues to grow and the current membership of Youth For Hospice is comprised of boys and girls, freshmen to seniors, and has expanded to include students from several area high schools. Two satellite groups of students from Tappan Zee High School and Nyack High School were formed in Fall 2011. North Rockland High School, formed in October 2012, is the third.
For more information about forming additional YFH satellite groups or becoming a YFH member, please contact. Lisa Denburg, UHR Assistant Director of Development, 845 634-4974, ldenburg@hospiceofrockland.org.
Members of YFH, who receive community service hours for meetings and events, assist at many of United Hospice of Rockland’s ongoing programs and events, including Hugs for Hospice, the Annual Walkathon, Trees of Life, Spring Gala, Africa Hospice Project and blood drives. Some members volunteer in the office as well. The fifth annual Dance-A-Thon raised a record $18,000 to benefit United Hospice of Rockland.
