NEW CITY ROTARY TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS TO ROCKLAND BOCES STUDENTS ON JUNE 16TH

The Rotary Club of New City will award two $1000 Vocational Scholarships to tRockland BOCES graduating seniors, at its meeting on Monday, June 16th, 1pm at La Terrazza in New City.

Janneth Pilco is a Clarkstown North High School senior. She and her family emigrated to the US from Ecuador, speaking no English. Janneth has maintained a 3.9 cumulative GPA in the BOCES Health Careers Programs and hopes to pursue a career in nursing. She plans to attend RCC and Dominican College.

Josselyn Sandoval Leiva is a Clarkstown South High School senior, enrolled in the Cosmetology Program at Rockland BOCES. She has a cumulative GPA of 3.6 and plans to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she will study Advertising and Marketing Communication.

Her cosmetology teacher said that Josselyn is a well-rounded student who shows excellent leadership skills.

Josselyn is excited about being the first person in her family to attend college, hoping to work in a salon, as she continues her studies. Josselyn says."Who knows? Maybe I will use that business degree to open up my own salon one day; which is one of the many ideas I still stand by."
