Rockland County Seeks Nominations for Senior Awards

The Rockland County Office for the Aging Advisory Council is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen Awards. 

Rockland County Executive Ed Day will present the two awards at a ceremony during the annual Power of Age ceremony (formerly Senior Awareness Day) on Wednesday, May 21st at Rockland Community College.  The awardees will then be recognized at a luncheon that day.

“We want to recognize and honor those who not only helped build our wonderful community, but those seniors whose efforts have been invaluable in helping each other and their community, “ said County Executive Day.

The criteria for each award is as follows:

Senior Citizen of the Year:  age 60 and over, a Rockland resident who volunteers creating or planning programs that provide services and activities to enhance the lives of senior citizens in the community.  Additional volunteer work also can be considered.

Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen: age 60 and over, a Rockland resident who volunteers on behalf of senior citizens.  Additional volunteer work also can be considered.

A person can be nominated for both awards.  To be considered, nominations must be received in the Office for the Aging by March 31, 2014.
