The Salvation Army Appoints New Coordinators for Rockland
Majors Marcus and Joy Jugenheimer have been appointed coordinators of The Salvation Army Rockland County Corps. They replace Major Philip A. Lloyd and his wife Major Jodi Lloyd, who served in the county for three years. The Jugenheimers hail from Ohio and has provided leadership to Salvation Army Corps in Connecticut, on Staten Island and oversaw The Salvation Army’s youth program in New Jersey.
Marcus and Joy will continue the Lloyd’s efforts to expand badly needed services in Spring Valley and throughout Rockland. The Salvation Army recently expanded services in Haverstraw and is exploring further expansion in other Rockland towns and villages. The nonprofit’s Red Shield afterschool music and homework program in Spring Valley won critical acclaim for filling the gap of budget shortfalls in East Ramapo. Childcare, music teaching and education tutoring, group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers on a temporary basis as well as family service programs to help families and needy individuals with emergency food, housing, utility assistance and other temporal needs are among services provided by The Salvation Army in Rockland County. Its canteen program was deployed to first-responders in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“’Doing the Most Good’ is more than a tag line for The Salvation Army it’s our vision and promise,” Marcus said. “We strive to maximize donations by using 82 cents of every dollar spent to provide direct services to help the most people in need. And, local contributions stay right here in Rockland for people most in need here.”

While their appointment from Ohio to Rockland is new, Rockland is familiar territory for the couple. Twenty years ago, Marcus and Joy met as students at The Salvation Army’s School for Officer Training in Suffern, where they would later celebrate their wedding ceremony. Originally from Salem, Ohio, Marcus’s relationship with The Salvation Army started as a teenager as he served as a volunteer at a Salvation Army Summer Day Camp program. After graduating from high school, Marcus attended the University of Toledo before completing his Bachelor’s Degree at Nyack College in Nyack. Marcus was ordained as an officer (minister) in The Salvation Army in 1994. Joy’s family has been involved in The Salvation Army for six generations and her parents also served as Salvation Army officers. Joy completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Houghton College and her Master’s Degree from Bethel Seminary. Joy was ordained as an officer in The Salvation Army in 1995.
