At What Price Betrayal: The deconstruction of Rocklands' Electoral System

Be well reminded, my fellow neighbors, that we have established a government of consent by the governed.  We alone are the final arbiters of that consent.  We alone decide when, where and how we will withdraw it.  We will not be dictated to by corrupt politicians, caught red handed.

Rockland County is our home, and it is in need of major renovation.  Over the tenure of long time caretakers we elected to supervise our towns, craft thoughtful legislation, preside over our County and Commission our elections, our County, Towns and Villages have fallen into disrepair.

In the final analysis, it can be traced to two primary causes: voter apathy and political corruption.

Our county is our home.  If our home springs a leaky roof, we hire and pay a roofer to fix it. If the roofer does a poor job, we do not re-hire them again.  Yet when politicians do us a disservice in Rockland County, it seems they get re-elected repeatedly.   The reason is voter apathy and political corruption.

I have long championed the cause against the political corruption in Rockland County, at the great personal expense of targeted defamation fabricated by the cabal of characters, entrenched in their positions of privilege and abusive in their borrowed authority.

Since 2007, my colleagues and I informed the public through published editorials, purchase of radio air time, supporting opposition candidates, and running for public office with an unrelenting dedication to uphold the US Constitution.  My reward has been libelous attacks and filthy accusations, aimed at killing the messenger to stop the message through character assassination.

They have failed to stop this messenger or our message, but they did succeed in damaging the very foundation of our home here in this County by corrupting our electoral system.  No one has full faith and confidence that our elections are free and fair anymore.

The recent exposé involving Legislator Frank Sparaco manipulating absentee ballots and a Board of Elections Commissioner seemingly aiding and abetting voter intimidation and fraud has become the symbol of everything wrong, and the picture of sickening corruption in Rockland County.

Serious reform is called for when political operatives can violate voter privacy by accessing the voter roster so that you, in the sanctity of your home, get a call demanding you come out and vote for their candidate, with an implied “or else.”   Staying home is also a vote, be it apathetic or not, that conveys a distaste for any candidate in this election.  This is a form of voter intimidation.  It says, “We know you didn’t vote and we’re watching you.”

Indictments should follow against everyone who had a hand in voter fraud, misusing absentee ballots in the manner that Legislator Sparaco did, with letters lying to an unsuspecting public about “voting from the comfort of your home.”  It is incredulous to believe that in one example, 35% of the voters in Clarkstown were “absent” and unable to vote, yet all of their ballots allegedly found their way into the hands of Sparaco, aided and abetted by Commissioner Babcock.

At what price betrayal, when demoralized citizen activists rose up opposing the status quo, only to find out that self ascribed, so called “Tea Party Patriots” Irene Turbucio, Diane Holland, and Lynn Teger all along were secretly abandoning the constitutional principles they vociferously and publicly espoused in 2010, promoting the complete opposite by 2012?

At what price betrayal, when we find former opponents of the insidious practice of trading the Republican Line for jobs and favors to Democrat candidates, sell out on the cheap, to get the Republican line for the same purpose?

The price of that betrayal is the loss of voter confidence in our electoral system.  No one believes we have a fair election system.  People feel elections in Rockland County are rigged.

People see opponents to the corrupt machine enduring vile attacks in order to dissuade opposition.  People see Republican conventions abandon, of all things, ballot voting, as an admission by the incumbents they cannot retain their seats and continue their corrupt practices because they would lose a secret vote.

So we see Republican Chairs like Jay Savino arrested by the FBI, and Bob Axelrod, Mike Dolan, Vincent Reda, and Commissioner Butch Babcock cheating their own committee members right out in the open at the GOP Convention 2012.

The price for betrayal is seen in the over-building and financial mess of a baseball stadium no one wanted in Ramapo.  The price for betrayal is seen in the staggering number of voters who choose to stay home on Election Day.

This past primary election turnout was abysmal.  For instance, only 96 Stony Point votes were cast to choose a primary candidate for Town Supervisor.  That was a ‘stay- home-slide’ not a land-slide as one person tried to dishonestly characterize it.

The price for betrayal is seen in the train of shameful scandals and resultant dishonor attached to the names of our hometown elected representatives.  Ramapo Supervisor democrat St. Lawrence , the target of yet another FBI investigation, was openly aided by GOP Chairman Reda and Ramapo Chairman Mike Dolan, who worked against all the Republican nominees in 2007 and 2009, when they gave him the Republican line.

The price for betrayal is one party rule, back room deals, over spending, over taxing, over reaching and loss of the greatest treasure we own;  free people in America.  The loss of free and fair elections paid for with the blood, life, limbs and irreplaceable youth of our soldiers; must never go unchallenged.

If you are like me, you will not back down, but will instead rise up.  As I am an elected Republican Committeeman for my Ramapo District, entrusted to do the right thing for my district, my colleagues and I convey to all who read this missive, those who betrayed us are hereby dismissed.  We do not acknowledge their position or their authority.   As of now, they are fired.

Be of stout heart. We are well prepared for more of the same old name calling and whining they have directed at us in the past.  They are like those petulant brats who have soiled themselves, but blame the stink on the people who suggest they go clean up their act.

You decide what the price for betrayal of our trust is, and we are free to decide to dismiss them and withhold our consent to be governed by such as them.  That is the power free people own and you alone are free to exercise it if you so choose.  You do not need permission from anyone.

Remember this when any of you or your neighbors receives a summons to sit on the Rockland County Grand Jury to decide on indictments.   There too, lays the price for betrayal.

Corrupt politicians and their lackeys have done a lot of damage to Rockland County over time. You know their names and their work product by the mess they have made of things.

Resolve to make informed decisions and do to them, what you would to any trusted employee you catch stealing from the cash register.

Be fearless, roll up your sleeves, and irrespective of party affiliation, let’s work together to repair this damage, before the roof caves in over all of our heads.
