After Hurricane Sandy: New City FD Donation Drive Continues Tonight

Volunteers gathering supplies for storm-ravaged Breezy Point, NY.

The volunteers of the New City Fire Department are accepting donations again until 9 p.m. for the on-going effort to build a shipment of relief supplies for residents of Breezy Point, NY, which was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.

The donation drive began at the New City firehouse at 15 Maple Ave. in New City on Saturday, continued on Sunday and runs until Friday (6 to 9 p.m. each night).

Here are items being sought:

- Blankets.

- Non-perishable food items, such as canned soups/vegetables, canned soups, boxed pasta, etc.

- Cases of water.

- Cases of sports drinks, such as Gatorade.

- Coffee/Tea/hot chocolate mixes

- Personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, contact lens solution, etc.

- Baby wipes/diapers.

- Cleaning materials.

- Work gloves.

- All sizes of batteries.

- Flashlights

- Extension cords

- Generators

- Sleeping bags

- Towels

- Pet food (pre-packaged)

If you go: The New City firehouse is located at 15 Maple Ave., New City, opposite Clarkstown Town Hall, just off Congers Road. Firefighters are directing cars into the firehouse, where supplies are then unloaded by the firefighters and then sorted, stacked, packaged and prepared for shipment.
