First Widespread Snow of the Season

School delays and closings dotted the rapidly whitening landscape as the forecasted 1-5 inches of snow began falling across the lower Hudson Valley.

"There will be some surprises across parts of the lower HV, and someone will likely surpass 6 inches. There will be a sharp cut off on how far north the heavy snow reaches," predicted Hudson Valley Weather. "Once the snow starts, heavy snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hours means that road conditions will decline rapidly. Don't be surprised to hear a rumble of thunder under the heavier bands as well. The current radar supports the areas from about Poughkeepsie south have the best chance of getting impacted by there heavier bands. It is in these areas where 2-5 inches are possible, 6"+ amounts will fall under the localized bands."
