Flags Symbolize Tens Of Thousands Of Lives Lost (VIDEO)

Dozens of colored flags commemorate people who died in the Holocaust

For the second year in a row, members of Congregation Sons of Israel and Hebrew School students arranged dozens of small flags on the front lawn in memory of the 11 million who lost their lives in the Holocaust. Yellow, red, white and pink striped flags stand in memory of Jews, Soviets and Polish citizens, Gypsies, the disabled, Jehovah’s Witnesses and homosexuals who perished in the Holocaust.

A brief service followed the placement of the flags on April 7, which was Holocaust Remembrance Day also known as Yom HaShoah. Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham said they would remain for another week. He said people passing by the Nyack temple stop to read the sign explaining the purpose of the flags.
