1. Great American Pow-Wow

This unusual and exciting event features Native American singing, dancing, food, crafts, story telling, and birds of prey. The cultural celebration is organized by the Redhawk Native American Arts Council, a not-for-profit organization that shares Native American culture with others through dance, art, and pow-wows. This weekend’s pow-wow will be held at various times Friday through Sunday at Anthony Wayne Recreation Area in Rockland’s Harriman State Park.

2. “The Foreigner” at the Elmwood Playhouse

Come to Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack for an incredible performance of “The Foreigner” directed by Kathy Gnazzo. Set in a fishing lodge in Georgia, the comedy delves into human judgment, society, and how people understand one another. The performance is running Friday through Sunday and ticket prices range from $18 to $21 depending on age.

3. Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival

Are you a Shakespeare fan? The annual Shakespeare Festival runs all summer at Putnam County’s beautiful Boscobel House and Gardens and it sure beats your memories of reading Hamlet in high school. The festival showcases Shakespeare in an affordable, accessible, and fresh way, perfect for the whole family.

4. River Day 

Our 4^th Arts option takes you back to the Hudson River in late 18^th and early 19^th centuries. The event, on Sunday, August 7^th, from noon to 5 PM, celebrates the river’s history with boat rides, hands-on activities, cooking, brick making, and even boat building. Don’t miss this event at the Van Cortlandt Manor, in Croton-on-Hudson for music, food, and fun.

5. Garrison Fine Crafts Fair 

There is no better way to take in the Hudson River feeling than from Garrison’s annual Fine Crafts Fair, featuring handmade goods, food, and live music, coupled with breathtaking river views from Garrison’s Landing, August 20^th and 21^st. Free for children under 18, and with great deals for seniors and college students, this is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the arts in Putnam County.
