Registered voters who live in the Clarkstown Central School District can cast ballots today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for candidates for the New City Library Board of Directors and for the library's proposed 2014 fiscal year budget.
Polls are open at the library, Congers Elementary School and the West Nyack Library. Six candidates are in the running for three open seats on the Board of Directors. Two of the candidates are incumbents.
Current trustees Edward Kallen and Christian Cortelli are running for re-election for their first complete terms. Kallen was appointed to complete the term of Barry Warner, who resigned last year, and Cortelli was appointed to complete Aney Paul's term earlier this year. Trustee Terri Thal decided not to run again. The other candidates are Cecily Cohen, Victor Berger, George Jacobson and Terence Mulgrew.
The New City library's proposed $5,089,075 budget includes a 1.23 percent tax increase.
Votes for library trustee candidates can only be cast at the New City Library. Voters, who live in Districts One and Three, can vote at the New City Library for trustees and the budget. However, the polls are located in different rooms.
Voters, who reside in District Two, can go to the Congers Elementary School to vote for the budget, however, to vote for trustees they have to also go to the New City Library.
Voters living in District four cast ballots at the West Nyack Free Library for the budget. They are not eligible to vote for trustees. The West Nyack Library's budget for fiscal year 2014 would increase by 1.90 percent from $1,096,343 to $1,117,860.
