Local and Dog at 765-Mile Mark of Appalachian Hike

Walk4Good is a non-profit dedicated to inspiring and empowering people to practice kindness

On Wednesday, May 30, Rockland Resident Christine Baker and her dog Jessie started the 2,180-mile hike of the Appalachian Trail, which over the next six months she hopes to help inspire those around her.

As of Oct. 11, Baker and Jessie have completed 765 miles of their journey.

"Jesse is a 4-year-old purebred retriever," Baker said. "Jesse is walking to raise awareness for five Labrador Retriever rescues. Every year, 3-4 million animals are euthanized and 1-2 million are purebreds like Jesse."

Baker is the founder of Walk4Good and president of CB Creative, Inc., an integrated communications consulting firm in Nyack.

"I recently launched Walk4Good, a non-profit dedicated to inspiring and empowering people to practice kindness," said Baker. "Our organization is busy preparing for our inaugural event—I will be hiking the Appalachian Trail with Jessie, my dog, (all 2,180 miles from Maine to Georgia) in order to get people moving for Kindness."

Walk4Good has visited many local elementary, middle and high schools as well as colleges and universities in the area in an attempt to mobilize people to dedicate a mile in order to spread kindness. Walk4Good has received a grand total of 1,212 dedications to date and are still accepting more. Dedications are free and if you want to dedicate a mile in honor of a loved one, just go to the website for more information.

You can still help them while they are on the trail:

Walk4Good's Mission

We congratulate Christine and Jessie on their walk to raise awareness. Kindess, towards both humans and animals is something that we need much more of!
