New City Preps For Semi-Annual Street Fair

Good times are coming to New City this Sunday, Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The semi-annual Street Fair hosted by the New City Chamber of Commerce will stretch along South Main Street between Congers Road and Second Street.

Chamber of Commerce President Gary Oteri said more than 100 vendors already signed up and he expects last minute additions as well. He said visitors can expect exhibitors displaying and selling jewelry, arts and crafts, pocketbooks and much more. With the General Primary just days after the street fair and the General Election several weeks beyond that, political parties and candidates will be also be attending.

Children can look forward to costumed Disney characters, face painting, stilt walkers, balloon artists, jugglers, carnival type rides and bounce houses. Their parents can listen to oldies and Beatles songs performed by The Bel-Aires as well as DJ Luigi.

Oteri said one addition from the very successful street fair in May is the addition of signs directing people to the locations of the kiddie activity areas, music and seating. He said many different types of food and beverages will be available from the restaurants located along South Main Street and the participating vendors.

For one local bakeshop, the street fair will serve as a grand re-opening. Just Buns, which closed its Congers location at the end of June, is relocating to Gary & Company on South Main Street and will have a booth celebrating its new location for swirly buns and other baked items at the event.
