Rebuild Hi-Tor plans its first Rock the Rebuild 5K on Saturday, April 13 to raise funds for a new animal shelter. Organizers hope local Rockland runners will be joined by other runners from throughout the Hudson Valley at the 3.1 mile race at Rockland Lake State Park. Race sponsors include Pfizer of Pearl River, Schultz Ford of Nanuet and Weichert Realtors of New City.
The first 500 pre-registrants will get t-shirts. Registration sign up is available online. The race begins at 8 a.m. and entry costs $25 until April 1 per person. After April 1, registration costs $30.
There is no guarantee t-shirts will be available for race day registrants. Race day check-in is from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
The top male and female finishers will each receive $100.
The race will take place at Rockland Lake State Park, which is located at 99 Rockland Lake Road in Valley Cottage. For more information contact Race Coordinator Erin Gilbreth at Erin.email@example.com.
Rebuild Hi-Tor volunteer Cal Mendelsohn described the condition of the Pomona shelter.
“The Hi Tor Shelter is in a state of total disrepair,” he said. “It needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt into a state-of-the-art facility, capable of providing quality care to the great numbers of unwanted animals in search of new forever homes.”
