Start Sunday with Charity Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast

The breakfast is Sunday morning 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. for $5. Raffles, Prizes. Proceeds go to Meal on Wheels in Nanuet.

Super Bowl Sunday is coming and food is a huge part. In fact, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, Super Bowl Sunday is America’s second largest day of food consumption, after Thanksgiving. How about starting your day with a breakfast for a good cause?

On a day full of spirit and friends, the Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary remembers their neighbors with their annual Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for Meals on Wheels.

“We need people to come to the event this Sunday, spend some time buy some raffles, and help us to raise money to help others,” said Rotarian George Hoehmann.

The Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary Club started about 20 years ago and has hosted the Super Bowl Pancake Breakfast for almost just as long. The club originally fundraised to help Meals on Wheels with a delivery truck and the event was so successful, they continued the traditionally annually. All proceeds continue to help Meals on Wheels, which is an organization dedicated to stopping senior hunger throughout America. Meals on Wheels is a private not-for-profit that delivers meals to the homebound all across Rockland County residents since 1974.

Super Bowl Sunday Pancake Breakfast is an important fundraiser for Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary. The 21 members can only do so much on their own. They need for people to come help support their cause.

“Everybody is going to have a great time supporting their community and eating delicious pancakes,” said Rotarian Mitchell Kahn. “It’s a great time had by all.”

Tickets are $5 at the door with door prizes ranging from toys for kids to dinners at local fine restaurants. There will also be two Super Bowl pools selling boxes for $10 each. Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary hopes to raise at least $3,000. The breakfast will be at Meals on Wheels 121 West Nyack Road #9 in Nanuet.

The Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary is no stranger to helping out the community. During the holiday season, they work with People to People to adopt a family and buy the family presents to ensure they have something to open for the holidays. In addition to many other charitable works, Rotary also creates Foundation Scholarships for graduating seniors.

Rotary also helps the less fortunate around the world, working with the Gates Foundation and the UN to help wipe out polio. The movement focuses on countries where polio has never been eradicated such as Afghanistan and India to prevent the disease from spreading to other countries.
