Commanders from the New York State American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion stopped by American Legion Post 1682 in New City on Saturday.
Each year, state a different commander from the American Legion goes around to all 62 counties in the state to visit the various state posts, according to Department Commander Timothy Van Patten. He added they bring information from Washington D.C. and American Legion headquarters, look for new members and make sure they know of programs and grants that can help them.
“We want to take care of our veterans,” he said.
On Saturday, he was in New City with American Legion Auxiliary President Sally Johnston and Sons of American Legion Detachment Commander John Knapp.
They stopped at the post to speak with local veterans and enjoy a lunch together.
