UPDATED: Utility Crews Working to Restore Power To 820 In Rockland

Orange & Rockland crews continue to make repairs today to restore electric service to the remaining 2,500 customers whose power was knocked out by Thursday’s series of severe late summer thunderstorms. The storms brought destructive lightning, high winds and heavy downpours through the early afternoon into late night and knocked out power to more than 17,000 electric customers across O&R’s service area.

Clarkstown Police report two roads remain closed because of the storms: Zukor Road by the Paramount Country Club in New City and Demarest Ave/Highland Ave in West Nyack.

About 14,200 customers had service restored by 8 a.m. Of the approximately 2,500 customers currently without power in its New York and New Jersey service area, 820 are in Rockland County with 225 of them in Clarkstown. Crews began repairs Thursday afternoon and continue working today. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan said the O&R and Con Ed crews and company contractors expect to repair all outages today but did not specify a timeframe.
