The VCS Board of Directors appointed Phyllis B. Frank and Gail K. Golden as interim Co–Executive Directors, effective January 1, 2013. They will replace Deborah Cary Murnion who is retiring as executive director on December 31. Murnion announced in August she was retiring after 15 years with VCS.
Frank and Golden have worked at VCS for many of the 43 years the agency has served the community. Frank, who is currently assistant executive director, is responsible for many social justice initiatives at VCS as well as the Domestic Violence Program for Men. Golden is the clinical director and responsible for the Counseling and Family Service programs
As a family service agency VCS provides an array of services in Rockland County as well as in Orange and Westchester counties including child abuse prevention programs, services to older adults and their families, counseling for victims of domestic violence and training and educational programs to address issues of racism and other forms of oppression. VCS recruits and trains lay volunteers to provide more than 85 percent of its services to the community. In 2011 the VCS volunteer work force contributed about 75,000 hours of service.
