Wake For Major Thomas Kennedy Is Today

Former New City resident killed in Afghanistan last week will be buried Friday at West Point

 

Major Thomas Kennedy, a former New City resident, was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan on Wednesday, August 8. The was born in Suffern and had attended Clarkstown schools. Major Kennedy graduated from West Point in 2000 and served deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His wake is being held today at William F. Hogan Funeral Home in Highlands Falls from 5 to 8 p.m. Requested attire is business formal or Class A uniforms. The funeral on Friday begins at 10 a.m. in the Cadet Chapel at West Point and burial will follow at the West Point Cemetery.

A reception following the burial is open to the public at the Tate Rink in the Holleder Center at West Point. Anyone planning to drive to West Point should be prepared for security check-points and have ID for all occupants.  Vehicles entering West Point will be subject to search.

After serving tours overseas, Major Kennedy was assigned as a tactical officer at West Point and earned a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. His wife, Kami, and two young children, son, Brody Thomas, and daughter, Margaret Mae, of Colorado Springs, CO, survive him.

A fundraising site established for donations to  provide for his children’s education had received more than $267,000 as of late morning. The online site created by a former classmate of Major Kennedy set a new goal of $400,000. Type in "Thomas Kennedy" to find the donation page for Kennedy's Angels.
