Arts Council of Rockland Announces Grants for In-School Programs

Three free application seminars scheduled

The Arts Council of Rockland (ACOR) announces grants for in-school programs are available through the Arts Education Grants. The grants provide matching funds from $500 to $4,000 for collaborative efforts between Rockland schools and cultural organizations and/or artists. The partners must work on projects between January 1 and June 15, 2012. 

Funding for the grants comes from the Local Capacity Building Initiative of the New York State Council on the Arts.

They are designed to help schools develop and enhance:

  • partnerships with artists/cultural organizations
  • programs that address the New York State Standards in the Arts
  • integration of the arts with other curriculum
  • recognition of the arts as fundamental to education

Applicants must be a Rockland Pre-K through 12th grade public, private, parochial and/or charter school.

To be eligible, proposals must demonstrate that:

  • teachers and their cultural partners are partnering and planning and implementing the project together
  • participating students will have at least three contact sessions with the cultural partner
  • planning is in place to build school-wide awareness of the proposed project
  • the project does not replace the services of certified arts specialists
  • the project complies with the New York State Learning Standards in the Arts in artistic and other educational objectives

The Art Council of Rockland provides free guideline and application seminars. The deadline for completed applications is Wednesday, October 26 at 1 p.m. at the Arts Council.
