Emery Brother Architectural Masterpieces on Display

This Saturday, July 21, the Historical Society of the Nyacks museum will feature, for the next to last time, photographs and drawings of architectural gems by master Nyack architects Marshall and Henry Emery.  

The Emery brothers, together and separately, designed structures between 1889 and 1949. Their local works include the Nyack Carnegie Library, the YMCA, St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, the Reformed and Methodist Churches, Oak Hill Cemetery gate, Memorial Park steps, numerous stores, and both grand and modest homes. 

Win Perry, president of the Historical Society and himself an architect, has installed the fifty images of structures designed by the Emery brothers.  “More than any other architects,” he says, “Marshall and Henry Emery defined the architectural character of the Nyack community." 

The exhibit is open from 1 to 4, and during the same time slot on the third Saturday next month.  Various other objects and pictures and documents pertaining to the Nyacks are also available for viewing on an ongoing basis.  The museum is accessed through the east entrance of the DePew House, 50 Piermont Avenue, adjacent to the Nyack Library.
