Monster Mini Golf Welcomes First Golfers

Monster Mini Golf opened the doors to its glow in the dark course for eager young golfers on Monday.  The indoor 18-hole course features hand painted neon colored murals of landmarks and notable residents of Rockland County and the Hudson Valley and several animated figures.  The early birds at the course on Route 304 in Nanuet reacted enthusiastically.

John Haring of Cornwall was the first to play.

“He wanted to be the first golfer and was", said his grandmother Regina Haring of Nanuet.

John said he has played lots of different mini golf courses and likes indoor ones the best.

“I love indoors much better than outdoors literally because anything can happen that can ruin your game (outdoors),” he noted.

Dylan and Maya were visiting their grandparents Charlotte and Jay Shaffer of New City, who brought them to the course.

Four- and three-quarters year old Maya said she was a good mini golfer and liked the course. Her older brother, Dylan agreed and said they had been to a Monster Mini Golf course in Rhode Island where they live.

Owner Jerry Streim said guests would notice something different each time they visit. He pointed out the designs on the walls feature Monster’s theme characters Stella, Jawbone and Alleycat with some unexpected additions such as golf balls and golf flag sticks highlighting his passion for golf.

“This is customized to me, that I’m a golfer,” he said.

Murals depict the three monsters baking rock cakes at the Rockland Bakery, Whoopi Goldberg is nicknamed Whoopi "Ghoul"berg, Rosie O’Donnell is nicknamed “Gross”ie O’Donnell and others with the Tappan Zee Bridge, Stephen Baldwin and Carl Sagan.  An animated talking tree and moving Frankenstein drew the attention of golfers.  Visitors will do more than just play golf. The course is lined with coffins and sewer there will be impromptu dance contests and trivia quizzes.

Monster Mini Golf also offers two party rooms and six party packages for children and adults and a video arcade.

Employees’ t-shirts bore the slogan “Because daylight is for wimps.”
