Helen Hayes Hospital Appoints New Medical Records Director

Janet Murgittroyd joins Helen Hayes from Columbus Hospital LTACH in Newark, NJ.

Helen Hayes Hospital has named Janet Murgittroyd as director of Medical Records at the the rehabilitation hospital in West Haverstraw.

Virgil Ennis, chief information officer, said Murgittroyd brings to her new assignment more than 30 years of expertise in the medical records field. She joins Helen Hayes from Columbus Hospital LTACH in Newark, NJ, where she served as the director of medical records for the long term acute care facility.

She has also served in a range of positions with increasing responsibility at Hoboken University Medical Center, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, St. Vincent’s Cancer Center in New York City and The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.

Murgittroyd earned a bachelor’s degree from Nyack College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and is a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).

Helen Hayes Hospital is a physical rehabilitation center, caring for patients with brain and spinal cord injuries, stroke, and cardiac, neurological and orthopedic disorders. Founded in 1900, it is operated by the New York State Department of Health and is affiliated with The NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System.

The hospital located just off Route 9W has 155 inpatient beds, a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation service, as well as many specialized therapeutic programs and services. In 1980, the hospital was renamed in honor of the Broadway and film actress Helen Hayes of Nyack, who served on the Board of Visitors at the hospital from 1944 until her death in 1993.
