Suffern-based Ramapo Anesthesia says Virginia Mims has joined its team to offer acupuncture services.
Ramapo Anesthesia has more than 100 physicians and 30 CRNAs at eight hospitals in New York and New Jersey, including in Suffern, in West Haverstraw and St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers. The company also provides care at more than 20 outpatient facilities.
Mims earned a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine from Touro College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Duke University. She is nationally board certified as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine — acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine — by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and holds New York State licenses in both Acupuncture and Massage Therapy.
“We are very pleased to announce that acupuncture has been added to our line of services we can offer to our patients,” said Dr. Richard Clarkin, president of Ramapo Anesthesia. “We are proud to have an accomplished and respected practitioner such as Virginia on our team.”
Mims’ clinical education included training at the Touro College Acupuncture Clinic, as well as hospital internships at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, where she provided inpatient and outpatient services to the Labor & Delivery, Oncology, Chronic Pain, Neurology, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and Geriatrics departments.
In recognition of clinical and educational achievement, Mims was selected for apprenticeships with two master practitioners, under whom she received specialized training in women’s health, infertility, pain management, and gastroenterology. She has continued to expand her clinical skills with specialized advanced coursework in acupuncture for pregnancy and birth, infertility, orthopedic acupuncture and laser therapy.
