New City Shops Offer Gift Ideas For Mother's Day

There are plenty of options around downtown New City.

Mothers Day is rapidly approaching and once again Patch hit the streets for you to find out the best way to make mom happy by shopping locally.

New City is filled with specialty shops waiting to fulfill your Mother’s Day gift needs.

A quick google search of Mother’s Day gifts, will deliver a slew of places to find factory-packed chocolates, warehouse-stored flowers and machine-made jewelry and gifts. Shop locally and get your mother something special. A freshly dipped chocolate covered marshmallow, a handmade piece of jewelry or personally designed bouquet of her favorite flowers can all be found in downtown New City.

Here are some ideas that local merchants offered for Mother's Day...

If you are looking for the right gift, The Things I Love has you covered. Everything from beautiful picture frames, handmade jewelry and distinctive tableware to luxurious bath soap, pocketbook organizers and attractive jewelry boxes is available at The Things I Love. The staff is friendly, welcoming and looks forward to helping you with your gift needs.

“A portion of the sales during Mother’s Day weekend will go to pay for 10 local students to have beautiful prom jewelry that they otherwise would never be able to afford. These 10 deserving girls will come into the store with their dresses, some of which are hand-me-downs, and will be treated like princesses. Our store has thousands of items and wonderful themed gifts for mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters or any other mom on your list,” said Owner Sandra Szpicek-Leylegian.

Flowers are the go-to thing for many people because they are just a phone call away from being delivered. If you are looking for ease, call Bassett, tell them what you are looking for and a member of the helpful staff will set up something beautiful for you and deliver it. Stop in at Bassett you can hand pick a bouquet or flowers to create your own. A dozen roses, or 20 tulips can be purchased and put in a vase for around $60. They will be open early on Sunday, 9 a.m. or earlier, and will be closing at 2 p.m.  Call soon to be sure you get your mother’s favorite stems.

This European style day spa located on Main Street in New City offers plenty of luxurious packages that will be sure to make your mother melt. The kids do a lot of running around during recess but it’s nothing compared to the running around most moms do on a daily basis.

Stop by Z-Spa and grab a gift certificate for Mother’s Day. Some people don’t like giving gift cards, they like to give something a little more meaningful. Trust me, an 80-minute Healing Hot Stone Massage or a Great Escape—which includes Z-Spa Massage, Intensive Vitamin Facial, Mud or Seaweed Wrap, Z-Spa manicure and pedicure—will mean a lot more to a busy mom than the envelope in came it. Which is also very pretty.

They will be open for extended hours on Mother’s Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you’ve been having trouble selecting the perfect gift, just stop by The Chocolatier. They have anything that a chocolate loving mother could ask for. Stop by and grab a few mouthwatering morsels for mom or bring in a party platter and have it filled with chocolate covered pretzels or marshmallows, cake balls, truffles or anything else you like. They will be freshly dipping strawberries, marshmallows and will of course have all kinds of sweet treats for the mom in your life.

“Sheryl (Lober) is just wonderful. She runs this place in a very family-oriented way. We have all kinds of unique requests from customers all the time and Sheryl does whatever she can to make sure they get exactly what they want,” said employee Gloria Friedman.

If you just want a little something to show mom you care stop at one of these great local businesses. If you’re trying to make up for forgetting last year, or her birthday, or her anniversary, again, stop by all of these shops and you will be in the clear.

What professional doesn't spend $500 per year on out of pocket expenses related to their jobs?Read More Staples offering 10% (or 5 in some cases) is hardly an example of the community getting involved. Thankfully, there are other examples of the community and PTA's getting involved and providing needed services. Clarkstown and surrounding areas hardly have substantial unmet needs in their classroom, thankfully.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.

George, don't you have enough to do straightening out the affairs of Clarkstown. Overtime in theRead More Police Department is rampant and the Town Attorney is out of control. As Tom Nimick says, we need an outside auditor for that operation since taxpayers were abused with the hiring of a political operative Jay Savino who I understand is singing like a canary. Get on the right side George before the FBI comes a lookin" I hear that the Gromack war chest is the first place they are looking for clues. Do the right thing George or you will get trampled with the rest of them.
Tom Nimick May 15, 2013 at 11:12 pm
Congratulations, George. Now about your other responsibilities as a member of the Town Board withRead More primary oversight over budget and expenditures: Won't you be the one to propose the needed audit of the Office of Town Attorney? You know the problems exist - likely you know more about the problems than I do. It is sad to see you silent in the face of the abuse of patronage. When will we hear your voice on it?
