Mike and Doreen Fitzgerald are bringing a new business to Rockland County and the Hudson Valley: and they are looking for "Beer Geeks' to staff it.
After receiving through Kickstarter, the Nanuet couple is moving quickly to get the place ready to open. New flooring and equipment are almost done being installed and they hope within the next week or two that the building will start coming together. Now they're looking to staff it.
Growler and Gill will have specially selected craft beer on draft and in bottle. Customers can also bring their growlers and have them filled. They plan to have a knowledgeable staff of fellow beer-lovers and also offer tastings.
Because of this, they're looking for 'Beer Geeks.'
"A Beer Geek is someone who is crazy about beer," said Mike Fitzgerald, who calls himself a beer geek also. "We're looking for someone who likes different types of beer, talking about it, learning about it and sharing this passion with others."
They plan to have local breweries come in and pour sample gills; They also want to team up with local food producers and restaurants to have food pairing classes. Their first free beer tasting is Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m.
"We are looking for a Beer Geek/Geekess who is passionate about craft beer and willing to help our customers understand and appreciate the world of beer," he said.
He added that they had been getting a lot of inquiries from Rockland, Westchester and Bergen counties.
"Doreen and I have traveled extensively over the last couple of years visiting breweries, craft beer stores, bars and festivals," said Mike Fitzgerald. "We have met some awesome people, experienced some incredible beer and shared it all on The Tristate Beer Blog. Unfortunately, what we have learned is that we HAVE to travel to experience these things. There’s nothing like this close to home in the lower Hudson Valley. So we had an idea: Why not open a place that has the best of all that we have seen in the craft beer world?"
Job responsibilities: Sales, Bartending, stocking shelves, some basic food prep, holding beer tastings, planning and carrying out beer festivals and events.
